The Prosecutor's Office of the Court of Auditors of Campania has decided to sue a total of 17 people involved in the management of the Regional Council.
Among them are 7 regional councilors currently in office, 6 former councilors and 4 senior executives, accused of having caused financial damage estimated at 3,6 million euros for the period between 2019 and 2022. The hearing has been scheduled for June 26.
Suspicious charges and compensation
According to Repubblica, the suspected irregularities concern the assignment of an additional allowance of 40 thousand euros to each of the councilors' secretaries.
Investigators described the actions of these political figures as the result of a 'Marquis del Grillo syndrome', recalling a famous phrase by Alberto Sordi in the film, “I am I, you are nothing”.
The names in the file
The names cited in the measure include the president of the Regional Council, Gennaro Oliviero, and councilors Massimo Grimaldi, Loredana Raia, Valeria Ciarambino, Andrea Volpe, Fulvio Frezza and Alfonso Piscitelli. In addition, former councilors such as Rosa D'Amelio, Antonio Marciano, Vincenzo Maraio, Flora Beneduce, Ermanno Russo and Tommaso Casillo were also included, along with executives such as Santa Brancati, Lucio Varriale, Mario Vasco and Maria Salerno. According to the accusations, the bag carriers of these politicians would have received compensation similar to that of executives, raising questions about the legitimacy of the recognized allowances.
