They worked in an unhealthy environment, with only one malfunctioning bathroom, forced to eat their meals on workbenches and paid just 4 euros an hour. This is the scenario that emerged in Domicella, in the province of Avellino, where police and financial police discovered a textile factory where foreign workers were being exploited.
The operation, conducted by the agents of the police station of Laurel and by the financiers of the Avellino group and the Baiano branch, under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office, led to the seizure of the industrial warehouse. Inside, ten workers of Indian and Bangladeshi origin, all legal on Italian territory, were employed in degrading conditions. However, only three of them were employed with regular contracts, while the other seven worked completely illegally.
In addition to serious contractual irregularities, the factory had numerous violations of workplace safety regulations. According to the technical office of the Municipality of Domicella, the plant did not comply with basic fire safety regulations and textile waste was accumulated without proper disposal.
The two owners, both Bangladeshi citizens, were reported for illicit intermediation and labor exploitation. The suspension of business activity was also proposed to the Labor Inspectorate of Avellino.
The operation is part of the fight against gangmastering and the facilitation of illegal immigration, a phenomenon that is still sadly widespread and that continues to bring the rights of the most vulnerable workers to their knees.
