The works on the octagonal construction with a dome located in the centre of the Royal Palace, the highest and most suggestive point of the Royal Palace, although not accessible to the public, have been completed. Caserta.
At the intersection of the arms of the Vanvitellian Palace there is a masonry structure that protrudes from the body of the building, built to give light to the internal floor below. The lantern has been subjected to dry cleaning of the surfaces to eliminate deposits and disinfection with a biocide.
The walls were then plastered and smoothed where there were gaps and cracks. They were painted with the previously sampled colors, selecting the shades that emerged from the analysis of the masonry, and covered with a suitable protective coating.
The eight windows, whose wooden frames were now in a state of unbearable decay, have been replaced. Next to the lantern, there is a large frame that allows the sun's rays to illuminate the Palatine Chapel. During the intervention on the roofs, it was decided to intervene here too.
The frame, made of iron with brass details, was cleaned to remove the iron corrosion products and then treated to stop the degradation process. All metal surfaces were treated with a protective coating. The missing and damaged glass was replaced.
Today the pinnacle of the Royal Palace of the Reggia di Caserta finally stands out in all its whiteness. The works were carried out as part of the restoration interventions “Roofs and facades”, part of the complementary operational program of action and cohesion 2014-2020 to the Pon Culture and Development 2014-2020 by the company Fratelli Navarra.
