Caserta - A 28 year old man, of Moroccan origin and already known to the police, was arrested by the Carabinieri in Caserta on charges of attempted theft of a bicycle and assault. The incident occurred around 6:30 this morning in Piazza Garibaldi, near the train station.
According to the reconstruction of the facts, the 28-year-old had already cut the anti-theft chain of the bike when he was surprised by the owner. Instead of fleeing, the man attacked the legitimate owner of the vehicle, who immediately alerted the police via the emergency number 112.
The military personnel of the Caserta Company's Operational and Radiomobile Unit, already present in the area for a territorial control service, intervened promptly and stopped the 28-year-old while he was still intent on attacking the victim.
The man, of no fixed abode, was taken to the barracks and subsequently arrested. He is now in the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere and will have to answer for improper robbery. The stolen bicycle was returned to its rightful owner.
