Castel Volturno – A 28-year-old Nigerian man stabbed a 27-year-old Senegalese man, presumably out of jealousy, and was stopped by the Carabinieri during the night. The attack, which took place on Viale Fiume Rubicone, shook the quiet town of Caserta.
Last night, blinded by jealousy, the 28-year-old Nigerian, armed with a knife, reached the victim's home, suspected of being thelover of his partner. As soon as the 27-year-old Senegalese opened the door, he was attacked with numerous stabs that hit his arms and left side, causing him to collapse to the ground in a pool of blood.
The alarm and the intervention of the Carabinieri
The screams coming from the apartment alerted the neighbors, who promptly contacted the emergency number “112”. In a few minutes, the Carabinieri of the Territorial Department of Mondragone and the health workers of “118” arrived on the scene. The victim, in serious conditions, was rushed to the “Pineta Grande” hospital, where she was admitted with a reserved prognosis and underwent surgery.
At the scene of the attack, the military collected witness statements and acquired images from video surveillance cameras, quickly reconstructing the dynamics of the attack and identifying serious evidence of guilt against the attacker.

The capture of the person responsible
In the early hours of this morning, the Carabinieri tracked down and stopped the 28-year-old in via Fiume Garigliano, in Castel Volturno. The man, already known to the police, illegally resident in the country and without a fixed abode, attempted to escape and resisted the soldiers, but was immobilized and taken to the barracks. Here he was placed under arrest as a suspect in a crime.
The Nigerian will have to answer for aggravated and continuous personal injuries, resisting a public official and carrying weapons or objects capable of causing offence. After the formal procedures, he was transferred to the prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere.
The timely intervention of the police and the rescue efforts made it possible to save the victim's life and bring the attacker to justice, but the episode left a deep mark on the community of Castel Volturno, struck by an act of violence as ferocious as it was sudden.
