An incredible story of abuse and violence has rocked football in Cameroon, where an alleged sports betting case led to the kidnapping and torture of a young goalkeeper.
The story comes from Limbe, a city in the country, where the president of the first division club Victoria United, Valentin Kwain, is accused of having kidnapped and tortured his player, Djomeni Éric Parfait, for three days. According to local press, president Kwain accused the goalkeeper of having manipulated matches, selling them and betting on an online gambling site, 1Xbet.
After bringing the footballer before the authorities, who found no evidence against him, Kwain reportedly decided to resort to illicit means.

The news emerged thanks to the complaint of the footballer's mother, who, worried about her son, went to the offices of Victoria United to ask for explanations. According to reports, the woman was violently removed by President Kwain, who rejected every request for clarification.
The National Union of Footballers of Cameroon (Synafoc) has spoken out in support of Djomeni, expressing its full support for the young goalkeeper and calling for justice. "Justice for Eric Parfait Djomeni! The young Victoria United goalkeeper was kidnapped, held captive, and tortured by his club's infamous president, Valentin Kwain. Eric Parfait Djomeni, you have my full support.", said Jacques Marcel Itiga Itiga, communications manager of the Cameroonian union.
