Tragedy struck the community of Fuorigrotta, where young Domenico Cirillo, 17, did not recover from serious injuries sustained in a road accident.
The news of the death was communicated yesterday by the press office of the Municipality of Naples, after a week of agonizing hospitalization. The accident occurred on the night of February 2 in Viale Dohrn, involving a car driven by a 19-year-old boy, whose vehicle and license were confiscated. The latter now risks a charge of road homicide.
Today the Municipal Administration of Naples expresses "deep condolences for the tragic death of Domenico Cirillo", the 17-year-old who was hit on Viale Dohrn and died yesterday in hospital. "Domenico - we read in a note - was an active member of the community, known for his passion for basketball. Mayor Manfredi and the entire Municipal Administration join in the pain of the Cirillo family, offering their deepest condolences and expressing their closeness".
Domenico's conditions were critical from the start; after being rushed to the San Paolo Hospital, he was transferred to the Cardarelli Hospital, where he underwent neurosurgery due to a serious head trauma, entering a pharmacological coma and being admitted to the intensive care unit.
Currently, the organ harvesting operations have begun, and Domenico's body is under the availability of the judicial authorities. The Local Police is investigating the case, while the details of the accident could emerge from the images recorded by the video surveillance systems of the area.
A young talent between sport and study
Domenico Cirillo was a brilliant boy, a student at the Labriola institute in his neighborhood, where he stood out for his good grades. His passion for basketball led him to play at the youth level, where he was highly appreciated. Numerous messages of condolence have been published on social media in his memory.
