The investigating judge of the Salerno Court has revoked the house arrest of accountant Nicola Salvati, 39, former regional treasurer of the Campania Democratic Party. Salvati was issued a precautionary custody order on February 3rd as part of an investigation by the Salerno Public Prosecutor's Office into aiding and abetting illegal immigration.
Immediately after the arrest the Pd had removed him from office, entrusting his functions to the national treasurer Michele Fina, and suspended him from the party. "Dr. Nicola Salvati - who has never entertained doubts about the work of the judiciary - already during the preliminary hearing, has, amply and decisively, given proof of his absolute extraneousness to the facts being contested and, consequently, the investigating judge of the Court of Salerno, adhering to the requests of the defendant's defenders, lawyers Enrico Ranieri and Vincenzo D'Avino, has accepted the request to revoke the precautionary measure, due to the total lack of serious evidence of guilt", reads a note released by the lawyers.
“A similar outcome occurred for Dr. Giuseppe Salvati, father of Nicola Salvati, defended by lawyers Enrico Ranieri and Tommaso Annunziata, drawn from the same precautionary order and who, following questioning under guarantee, proved his absolute extraneousness to the facts in dispute”. Satisfaction was also expressed by Salvati who, with a note, commented on the decision of the investigating judge.
"I waited, in silence, for justice to take its course and today the investigating judge of the Court of Salerno ordered the revocation of the order executed against me. I have never had any doubts about the work of the judiciary and, already during the preliminary hearing, I have, amply and decisively, given proof of my absolute extraneousness to the facts being contested".
