Striano – This morning, personnel from the Port Authority and Coast Guard of Castellammare di Stabia executed a precautionary seizure order issued by the Preliminary Investigations Judge of the Torre Annunziata Court, at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The intervention led to the seizure of the plant of the company TGS srl, specialized in the processing of "electrolytic galvanic", with operational headquarters in the Municipality of Striano. The legal representative of the company is being investigated for environmental pollution (art. 452 bis cp), illegal discharge of industrial waste and illegal disposal of hazardous special waste (arts. 137 and 256 of the Consolidated Environmental Act).
The investigations, conducted by the Coast Guard with the technical support of a chemist acting as an auxiliary of the judicial police and coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office, have ascertained that the company was operating without the necessary authorizations and without adequate purification treatment.
The illegal discharges of industrial waste water, originating from the production cycle, have exceeded the limits set by Legislative Decree no. 152/2006 (Consolidated Environmental Act), causing serious environmental damage.
Laboratory analyses have revealed the presence of heavy metals (zinc, chromium, copper) not only in the closed circuit of the factory, but also in the soil, subsoil and public sewerage system. These elements, deriving from the galvanic process, have contaminated the entire surrounding area, significantly exceeding the threshold values established by the Ministerial Decree of 5.02.1998 and by Table 2 of Annex 5, Title V, Part IV of Legislative Decree no. 152/2006.

During the investigations, an illegal disposal and uncontrolled abandonment of hazardous liquid waste produced by industrial activity also emerged. Furthermore, it was ascertained that the tanks of the closed circuit overflowed, causing the wastewater to fall to the ground and further aggravating the compromise of the environmental matrices.
In addition to the seizure of the factory, the military served a notice of guarantee to the company administrator for the administrative offence dependent on the crimes contested, pursuant to art. 25-undecies Legislative Decree 08/06/2001, n. 231. The precautionary measure, executed today, aims to prevent further damage to the surrounding environment and to the Sarno River.
The operation is part of a broader investigative context carried out by the Coast Guard, the Carabinieri of the Environmental Protection Command and the Carabinieri Forestali, under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Torre Annunziata.
The aim is to combat the illegal discharge of industrial wastewater that, directly or indirectly, ends up in the Sarno River, its tributaries and the public sewer system, threatening the ecosystem and public health.
