On the fourth night of the Sanremo Music Festival, Massimo Ranieri paid tribute to his native Naples by performing one of Pino Daniele's masterpieces, accompanied by the group I Neri per Caso. The performance thrilled the audience, who not only appreciated the artist's singing skills but also noted the visibly reddened appearance of his eye.
Massimo Ranieri at Sanremo: a red eye
The well-known Neapolitan singer, competing among the big names, enchanted the Ariston audience with his rendition of "Quando," a huge hit by Pino Daniele. However, those in attendance noticed Ranieri's particularly red eye, which could be due to a simple broken capillary or a simple subconjunctival hemorrhage. To date, the artist has not provided specific comments on the matter.
Expert Statements
“It is a banal subconjunctival hemorrhage: it goes away on its own, without treatment, after a week.

"I saw it on TV like everyone else, and from what I understand, it's a subconjunctival hemorrhage. Essentially, there's blood in the conjunctiva, the white part of the eye with the blood vessels. Sometimes, the capillaries can break," the expert added.
Causes and consequences
The problem of red eyes could be linked to several causes, such as stress. According to Barabino, "stress increases blood pressure, which in turn promotes the breaking of capillaries." These factors can affect the visual health of those under pressure, as in Ranieri's case during such a high-profile event as the Sanremo Music Festival.
