Gioia Tauro – A joint operation by the Reggio Calabria Financial Police and the Customs and Monopolies Agency led to the seizure of 788 kilos of ultra-pure cocaine in the port of Gioia Tauro. The drugs, hidden inside two containers, are believed to have netted criminal organizations over €126 million.
The operation is part of a large-scale control plan in the port area, where inspections have been intensified to identify containers used for drug trafficking. As part of the investigation, three suspicious containers from South America headed to Italian and Spanish ports were selected for in-depth checks.
The investigators first subjected the containers to X-ray scans with sophisticated scanner equipment, then inspected them with the help of the police's canine units. Guardia di Finanza.

Drugs hidden in containers with pellets and frozen fish
The cocaine was cleverly hidden: some blocks were hidden among hundreds of bags of pellets, while others had been placed in a cavity created in the engine compartment of a refrigerated container containing frozen fish.
According to investigators, the seizure demonstrates the constant attempt by traffickers to refine drug concealment techniques to evade customs and police controls in the port of Gioia Tauro. Investigations are continuing to identify those responsible for the illicit trafficking.

It's strange how traffickers try to hide drugs in such complicated ways, but I don't understand why they keep trying. The Guardia di Finanza does a good job, let's hope they keep finding other things.
The Guardia di Finanza operation seems to have been very effective, but I wonder if it is enough to stop drug trafficking. Trafficking is very complex and there are always new techniques that criminals use.
