Naples – Yesterday morning, the State Police intensified checks against illegal commercial activity in Piazza Garibaldi, conducting a joint operation that led to the seizure of over 700 items and the arrest of a 37-year-old Moroccan for robbery.
The operation, coordinated by the Railway Police Department for Campania, saw the collaboration of the Italian Army, the Campania Crime Prevention Department and the Municipal Police.
Food and electronic products totaling over 700 items were seized, with administrative fines amounting to 21.000 euros.
During the operation, in via Galileo Ferraris, the officers arrested a man accused of robbing a woman, violently stealing her phone and causing her injuries. The suspect was stopped thanks to the indications of passers-by and the prompt reaction of the police.
This operation demonstrates the authorities' commitment to combating illegal trade and ensuring the safety of citizens in the area of Naples Central Station.

The police operation yesterday was important to fight illegal building, but there should be more control in other areas of Naples, not only in Piazza Garibaldi. Citizens deserve safety everywhere.
It is good that checks are carried out, but I wonder if arrests are enough to stop these crimes. Security is a complex issue and one operation cannot solve everything.
This operation has certainly brought significant results, but I hope that the police will continue to carry out regular checks, because the problem of illegal building is widespread and cannot be stopped with a single intervention.
