Naples – A rapid and violent action took place in the heart of Naples, along the central via Toledo, where a 22-year-old already known to the police carried out a theft against a clothing store, using a large dog as a tool of intimidation. The episode, which left passers-by in a state of shock, ended with thearrest of the young man by the carabinieri.
The story of the attack
At around 15:00 pm, the owner of a well-known clothing store located at number 235 in via Toledo was surprised by the sudden entrance of a boy, who was holding a large German Shepherd on a leash. The animal, visibly restless, was baring its teeth and barking threateningly, creating a climate of tension. With a lightning-fast gesture, the 22-year-old grabbed a designer jacket worth 1.400 euros and attempted to escape.
The shopkeeper, determined not to let the thief escape, chased him and caught up with him a short distance away. However, the young man reacted by setting his dog on the victim, forcing her to desist for fear of being attacked. The shopkeeper, while moving away, kept an eye on the boy, who headed towards the San Carlo theater.
The intervention of the police
Fortunately, a patrol of the Carabinieri from the Chiaia station was nearby, in Piazza Trieste e Trento. The shopkeeper immediately reported the incident, providing a detailed description of the thief and the dog. The officers reached Via San Carlo, where, at number 8, they identified the 22-year-old. With one hand he was holding a bag, while with the other he was trying to control the German shepherd, still agitated.
During the search, the carabinieri found the stolen jacket and two other items of clothing, probably stolen in previous thefts. The young man, of Tunisian origin and homeless, was arrested and will have to answer for improper robbery. The dog, however, was entrusted to the care of veterinary doctors at the hospital of the ASL Napoli 1.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old was taken to prison to await trial, while the German Shepherd will be subjected to checks to evaluate his conditions and possible placement with a new family.

And a very worrying episode what happened in Naples, people must feel safe when they go shopping. I hope the dog is fine and that the young man takes the right consequences for his actions, but I don't know if it's enough.
