The recently restored front door of Palazzo Carafa in Naples has been defaced with graffiti, sparking outrage and concern for the city’s historic heritage, which is often the victim of vandalism.
The act of incivility hit the monumental Diomede Carafa palace, located in via San Biagio dei Librai, in the heart of the lower decumanus.
Palazzo Carafa: A 15th Century Jewel
Il Carafa Palace It was founded in the 1466th century by Diomede Carafa, the first count of Maddaloni, with the aim of hosting antiquities found in the city. The current building is the result of the reconstruction of a previous medieval building, probably belonging to the same Carafa family, and completed in XNUMX.
This recent attack on the gate is not only a damage to the architectural heritage, but also an affront to the history of Naples, a city that hosts countless artistic and cultural treasures.
Several citizens have reported the outrage to the Green-Sinister alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli: “It’s a disgrace, we need cameras everywhere in the historic center to stop such atrocities.”
“Often these uncivilized people are the same ones who proclaim and write to 'defend the city'”- Borrelli comments- “They are fortunate to live in a city that is overflowing with history and culture and they can do no better than desecrate its identity.
We asked the Superintendence to remove the writing, a real eyesore and an insult to the entire city. We need more controls and more video cameras to protect the monuments and historic buildings from petty criminals”
