The redevelopment project for Terrazza a Mare in San Giovanni a Teduccio is taking shape, aiming to transform the former sewage treatment plant into a new tourist and bathing area.
The initiative includes the creation of a fully equipped beach area that will include restaurants, bars, restrooms, fountains, and a sports area, all to be completed by 2027.
New opportunities for the Lungomare
The €3,4 million project, already funded, is part of a larger €12 million initiative aimed at redeveloping the waterfront in eastern Naples. The new beach will feature a reef designed to protect from storm surges and the removal of the current wall that blocks the sea view from the road. "The redevelopment of the San Giovanni a Teduccio coastline continues, from a degraded area to a swimming and tourist-friendly waterfront," explained Public Works Councilor Edoardo Cosenza.
An ambitious project
The city council resolution, approved on December 23, is a fundamental step in the revitalization of the city's former industrial zone.

Reconnecting the neighborhood to the sea
The project, funded by the Institutional Development Contract (CIS) Vesuvio Pompei-Naples and by FSC 2014-2020 funds, includes a new network of coastal paths that will connect the neighborhood with the coast.
Green spaces, sports areas and a covered walkway towards the sea will be created. The interventions aim not only to reclaim the area but also to create optimal usability for citizens and tourists, encouraging the growth of the area and its integration into the urban fabric of Naples.

The Terrazza a Mare redevelopment project seems interesting but I don't know if all this money is well spent. Let's hope that the promises are kept and that the area becomes a really nice place for everyone.
