The investigation into the murder of Angelo Vassallo, the fisherman mayor of Pollica Acciaroli, has taken a significant step with the conclusion by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office. Carabinieri Colonel Fabio Cagnazzo and seven other suspects could now face trial.

The context of the crime
According to the reconstruction of the prosecution, claims vigorously rejected by the suspects, Vassallo was murdered because he was about to report the cover-ups related to drug trafficking that had hit the Acciaroli area in 2010. The fisherman mayor was allegedly "lured into an ambush and murdered with 9 gunshots", a modus operandi that led the Prosecutor's Office to consider the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method.
