The creation of a journal marks a new and important chapter for the Pietà de' Turchini Foundation, which boasts over twenty-five years of commitment to the international musicological scene.
This project was possible thanks to the determination and contribution of musicologists Sara Amoresano and Lorenzo Corrado, under the scrupulous scientific direction of Paologiovanni Maione, who has accompanied the scientific and musical initiatives of the Foundation from the beginning.
“With great enthusiasm and a spirit of innovation, we inaugurate Poliorama, aware of the important responsibility that binds us to the tradition of its historic predecessor, Poliorama Pittoresco, founded in 1836 by Filippo Cirelli.”, says Mariafederica Castaldo, president of the Foundation.
Issue 0, presented on this occasion, includes contributions that start from the career of the first mime of the Teatro di San Carlo and extend to fascinating themes, such as periodical illustrations, important female figures of the Neapolitan Risorgimento, and the unpublished repertoire of salon music by the composer Vincenzo De Meglio, up to unpublished documents linked to the figure of Franco Alfano.

The Poliorama founded by Cirelli had a significant impact on the Neapolitan and Italian musical and cultural scene, promoting a conscious musical culture. Edizioni Turchini continues this commitment, stimulating dialogue between experts in various fields, with Naples as a cultural and musical hub. Today, the magazine focuses on 19th-century Naples, considered a complex and underexplored period, combining the Baroque legacy with the innovations of an era of great transformation. The choice of digital format aims to make the content easily accessible and encourage wider dissemination of knowledge.

The creation of this magazine seems to be an important step for the Foundation, but I wonder if it can really contribute to spreading musical culture as hoped. It would be interesting to know more about the contents.
I hope that the Poliorama magazine will be a success and will lead to a greater awareness of Neapolitan music. Although the digital format is interesting, I wonder if the accessibility is really that high for all users. We must also consider those who do not have access to the internet.
