A series of cat deaths near the cemetery in Polla (SA) has raised alarm among the local community, raising fears of a possible mass poisoning. The animals, who had long lived in the area and were being cared for by some residents, were found dead in circumstances that prompted the local police to launch an investigation, with the support of the local health authority (ASL).
The Local Police officially requested the intervention of the ASL to collect the carcasses and perform an autopsy, in order to ascertain with certainty the causes of death and verify the hypothesis of poisoning.
The feline colony that lived near the cemetery was well known to the inhabitants of Polla. The cats, about twenty in all, had become an integral part of the landscape, thanks also to the care and affection of the cemetery visitors. In recent days, however, the number of animals present has drastically reduced and several lifeless bodies have been found in the surrounding land.
Concern for the fate of the cats grew rapidly, with reports on social media and formal complaints to the authorities. The intervention of the Local Police, led by Commander Andrea Santoro, was timely and led to the start of the investigation.
At the moment, the investigation is still ongoing and the results of the autopsies are awaited to definitively clarify the causes of the cats' death. The community of Polla, in the meantime, remains apprehensive for its four-legged friends and asks that the incident be clarified.

It is really sad that so many cats died in one place. I hope the police find those responsible for this event. Cats need protection and not dangers like poisoning.
It is a very sad event that happens in Polla, it is not clear what could have happened to the cats. We hope that the authorities can find an answer to this mystery to give peace to the community and the animals.
