The Campania Inner Landscape Committee expresses great satisfaction for the initiative promoted by the Prefect of Avellino, Rossana Riflesso, who brought to public attention the problem of wild mega-wind farms in Irpinia.
The meeting, held on February 19 in Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi, saw the participation of authoritative speakers, including the Public Prosecutor Domenico Airoma, the heads of the law enforcement agencies (Carabinieri, Police, Guardia di Finanza) and the mayors of various municipalities in the province.
In addition to the issues of health, traffic and safety, the meeting finally addressed the problem of wild wind energy, a phenomenon that for over twenty years has had a significant impact on the environment, the landscape and the local economy.

Currently, there are hundreds of projects for large-scale wind and photovoltaic plants being evaluated by the VIA Sector of the Campania Region, particularly concerning the municipalities of Andretta, Aquilonia, Bisaccia, Frigento, Guardia Lombardi, Lacedonia and Monteverde, already heavily affected by the presence of wind towers, power lines and cable ducts.
The Committee hopes that the Prefect's initiative will encourage the Campania Region to conduct a thorough analysis of the numerous "copycat projects," which often overlook the unique characteristics of the Irpinia region. Furthermore, mayors are encouraged to actively involve citizens in the defense of their territory.
Meanwhile, the mayor of Calitri, Michele Di Maio, has joined the Coordination of 161 Italian mayors who oppose speculation related to renewable energy plants. At the moment, he is the only representative of Campania and Irpinia in the Coordination, but the Committee hopes that other mayors will soon follow his example.
