Yesterday afternoon, 25 February 2025, the Court of Appeal of Naples issued its ruling rejecting the appeal lodged by Ferrovie dello Stato on the first instance conviction issued by the court of Avellino in a civil court.
The Court's decision, which comes twelve years after the start of the trial, could become a fundamental step also for the ongoing criminal proceedings involving 227 civil parties.
«We are happy with this result – the club rejoices Legambiente Avellino – Beehive -. This is another small piece of the puzzle that will help restore justice to the workers of the former Isochimica and to condemn, hopefully also in criminal court, those who allowed this massacre and destroyed an entire territory by filling its subsoil with asbestos».
Legambiente Alveare is a young club: "We were born four years ago, but right from the start we tried to put the narration of what happened at the former Isochimica at the center of our activities, how important it is to remember and above all to make the population of Avellino and beyond aware of the gravity of what happened", explains the president Antonio Di Gisi
«We tried to do it on tiptoe, always respecting what happened, listening to the former workers and citizens of Borgo Ferrovia and also discussing the future of the former Isochimica site», adds Di Gisi.
In our “Traccia” campaign we brought the issue of the future of the former Isochimica site to the attention of the candidates for mayor.
"We talked about co-design and participation in the creation of new spaces in the city. We will have to decide together what the former Isochimica will be: the municipal administration, former workers, the neighborhood and associations.
We don't need projects imposed from above. We need respect for what happened, we need memory and we need answers that, we hope, will arrive soon from the criminal trial for the workers and from the end of the works of reclamation, for the city", concludes Legambiente Avellino.
