According to the former AC Milan coach, Serie A is showing signs of recovery, even if our movement remains behind other countries: “In Italy there are two categories of football: on the one hand those who have understood that you need to have a team and a group, on the other those who continue to think that football is only an individual and defensive fact. England has enlightened everyone: Brazil, Holland, France, Belgium. They have an offensive and team style of play. We, on the other hand, have remained behind”.
Sacchi then praised some Italian technicians: “There is Lazio who plays positive football, who elevates the players: well done Baroni. Motta does the same thing. But there is also Conte, who is a phenomenon and gives life, and Gasperini, who plays another football spending much less”.
The former coach finally underlined the importance of an intervention at youth level: “Youth national teams have to take the boys and train them, otherwise we are always late. When you go to play against teams that have a consolidated style and you don't, it becomes tough. At my Milan they said we weren't Italian, that we were 11 unleashed. But we weren't unleashed, we ran well. Even without Van Basten, who was injured for seven months, we continued to win. This is because we had a structure, a clear idea of football. And that's what is still missing in Italy”.
