Moments of tension in Cava de' Tirreni on Friday evening, at the end of the match between Cavese and Team Altamura: a group of five or six local fans threw smoke bombs, a dozen firecrackers and other objects at the police officers engaged in maintaining order near the Simonetta Lamberti stadium.

The reasons for the attack remain unknown, but fortunately no damage to people or property was reported. The State Police immediately began investigations to identify those responsible for the episode, which tainted an evening of sports with unacceptable acts of violence.

Meanwhile, the company Cavese 1919 officially distanced itself from what happened, firmly condemning the incident with an official note: “Cavese 1919 dissociates itself from and firmly condemns the acts of violence that occurred after the match outside the Simonetta Lamberti Stadium, which targeted State Police officers. Violence, in all its forms and substances, is not part of the principles of loyalty and respect that distinguish our club. Our most sincere solidarity goes to the police forces, engaged in carrying out their work”.

It is not right that there are violent acts during sporting events. Let's hope that the police can identify the culprits and that similar things do not happen again in the future. Sport must remain a moment of joy.
