The Italian government has appointed General Giuseppe Vadalà as sole commissioner for the Land of Fires, a decision announced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during the meeting of the Council of Ministers.
The initiative was included in the Public Administration Decree, highlighting the government's commitment to solving the problem of environmental pollution in this area.
"Within the Public Administration Decree, the Government has included provisions aimed at addressing and resolving the long-standing issue of pollution in the 'Land of Fires,'" Meloni explained.
He emphasized that these measures are necessary to ensure the implementation of the European Court of Human Rights ruling, which condemned Italy for failing to take adequate measures against pollution. General Vadalà will be responsible for coordinating the cleanup of the territorio, endowed with extraordinary powers to carry out the specific activities provided for by the sentence.
Statements from the Campania Region
The vice president of the Campania Region, Fulvio Bonavitacola, welcomed the appointment of General Vadalà, expressing the hope that it will be accompanied by adequate financial allocations from the government.

The appointment of General Vadalà seems like a good decision, but I wonder if there will be enough money to do all the necessary cleanups. Let's hope the government does something concrete to solve the pollution problem.
