Nine companies and 12 vehicles used for the purpose were seized spill illegal waste disposal, 20 people reported and administrative fines issued for over 250 thousand euros.
These are the numbers reached, in the last three weeks, by theArmy employed in the operation Land of fires, in the provinces of Naples and Caserta. These results were also obtained thanks to the information gathering activity through the analysis of photographs and aerial videos from drones (Raven and Strix).
“The Italian Army, by virtue of the conversion law of 6 February 2014 n. 6 – it is recalled -, continuously conducts the operation “Land of Fires” in Campania, in collaboration with the police forces. The soldiers of the Campania group, based on the 21st Engineer Regiment, dedicate themselves every day to combating environmental crimes, with particular attention to illegal waste dumping and toxic fires”.
Furthermore, thanks to the technologically advanced Army tools used by the Campania Group, such as the Imperio command and control system, it was possible to create a detailed and constantly updated mapping of all the crimes committed in the affected area. In 2024 alone, 470 new dumping sites were identified and administrative sanctions were issued for a total of 8,3 million euros.
These results were achieved thanks to the use of two hundred units, who carried out approximately 9.500 patrols (operating 24 hours a day), checking 2.213 vehicles, of which 259 were seized and identifying more than 2.800 people, 290 of whom were reported and five arrested.
