Pozzuoli – A new seismic swarm shook the Campi Flegrei area this morning, rekindling the alert in the volcanic area between Naples and Pozzuoli.
Following the tremors, the prefect Michele di Bari urgently convened the Monitoring Table in the Prefecture, with mayors, police forces, Fire Brigade and 118.
According to official updates, no damage to people or infrastructure was reported, but authorities have taken precautionary measures: the temporary closure of the Campi Flegrei Archaeological Park pending inspections and the suspension of classes at seven schools, including the Rossini Hotel School in Bagnoli and six schools in Pozzuoli.
Children evacuated, parents on the run
The situation is particularly critical at the Madonna Assunta elementary school, the last school building in Naples on the border with Pozzuoli. After the first tremors, teachers followed safety procedures, evacuating students. Parents, alerted via chat, rushed to pick up their children. The children, in the meantime, have been moved to a green park between the school and the sea, where they are waiting to return.
“We felt the first tremor, we put our heads under the desk. Then the teachers told us to go out. There was a second tremor, stronger, and we were very scared,” an 8-year-old girl told her mother, visibly shaken. The woman, like many other parents, left everything to get to school: “I got the message and ran. Luckily, everyone is safe.”
Continuous monitoring
The Civil Protection has activated the operations room of the Prefecture, in constant contact with the institutional subjects. "The situation is under control, but we are not lowering our guard", underline prefectural sources. In the meantime, the little ones of the Madonna Assunta, although tried by the experience, continue to play in the park, under the watchful eye of teachers and operators.
