Bacoli "Thanks to the Integrated Urban Plan we presented as a Metropolitan City for the Giugliano-Phlegraean area, aligning projects from various municipalities, we were able to secure NRRP funding totaling €52 million, €5 million of which was for various projects in the Municipality of Bacoli.
The sports complex that is being opened today, thanks to the commitment of the administration led by Mayor Josi Della Ragione, is one of these: a beautiful project that will allow hundreds and hundreds of young athletes to enjoy a modern and functional sports facility, a sign of hope for the entire Campi Flegrei area.
This was stated by the mayor of the Metropolitan City of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, attending the inauguration of the renovated sports center on Via Cuma in Bacoli. For over 25 years, the facility had been virtually abandoned, becoming a place of neglect and abandonment, filled with all kinds of waste.
The center reopened today thanks to a €2 million grant from the Metropolitan City National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) funds, which allowed the Municipality of Bacoli to return to the community an area that includes a soccer field with a grandstand, a five-a-side football pitch, changing rooms powered by renewable energy, parking, and recreational areas.
The new facility now meets all the most modern CONI competitive safety standards.

With the new pitch, the city is reclaiming an important piece of its sporting history: it was on this very pitch that the then El Brazil Bacoli won the Eccellenza championship, with fans forced to watch matches from the sidewalk surrounding the facility for the entire season. "After more than twenty years of absolute decay," Della Ragione emphasized, "the complex is once again a public asset and will be a driving force for the revitalization and social development of Cuma, which will be more functional and will never again feel abandoned, and for the entire city."
For the Phlegraean Fields. It is our largest sports facility, a beautiful community center, which joins the Tony Chiovato in Baia, the facility at the foot of the Aragonese Castle. In the area adjacent to the complex, the mayor of Bacoli noted, the first bradyseismic collection area will also be built, as well as another sports center, with tennis courts and other facilities. Both projects will be funded by the Metropolitan City.
"This is a sign of Phlegraean resistance," Della Ragione concluded, "from those who want to continue living here, growing here, to build an increasingly resilient community. Thus, we demonstrate that, even in such challenging times, the city moves forward, and that it is possible to work on two fronts simultaneously: addressing bradyseism and improving public services for the area."
The project, which lasted a year, also included the restoration and cleaning of green areas and the surrounding riverside areas overgrown with weeds, and the construction of a coastal pedestrian path from the Baia plain to the roadhouse.

The intervention made in Bacoli is a positive thing for the whole community, but we hope that the promises will be kept and that the sports center will remain well cared for over time. It is essential for young people.
