Three elderly people, guests of a nursing home in the province of Florence, died after being admitted to the Santa Maria Nuova hospital for a serious gastrointestinal syndrome. La Nazione reports.
The incident dates back to last Monday, when some guests reported feeling unwell shortly after finishing their meals. The NAS carabinieri, personnel from the hygiene office of the ASL Toscana Centro and the 118 vehicles, called by the operators, arrived at the facility.
The people involved, four in total, were transported to the hospital: in addition to the three victims, there are two other guests hospitalized in serious conditions in Careggi. According to the newspaper, the prosecutor on duty has ordered an autopsy, while the inspectors of the hygiene office of the ASL are investigating the case to trace the possible error in the production chain of the canteen meals.
The batch would have left from the cooking center of another nursing home, also in the Fiorentino area, now closed for investigations.
