San Sebastiano al Vesuvio – A 19-year-old from Caivano was arrested by the Carabinieri of the San Sebastiano al Vesuvio Station in execution of aOrder of Precautionary Custody in Prison issued by the Court of Nola, at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office.
The young man, already under house arrest in Carditello, it is considered seriously accused of defrauding the elderly. The investigation was prompted by a complaint from a local couple in their seventies who were victims of a scam in November 2024. According to the reconstruction, the couple had received a phone call from a man who, pretending to be their son, had led them to believe they had to pick up a package at the post office.
While the husband was going to the post office, always kept busy on the phone by the scammer, the wife received another call: another accomplice, once again pretending to be her son, claimed to be at the Carabinieri due to a missed payment of 5.200 €, necessary to avoid a criminal complaint.
In a panic, the woman had handed over to an individual who showed up at her door all the gold jewellery in her possession, for a total value of approximately EUR 10.000Only later did the husband and wife realize that they had been defrauded and report the incident to the Carabinieri.
The investigations allowed them to identify the scammer who had shown up at the victim's house to collect the valuables: the 19-year-old was recognized by the elders and immortalized by the video surveillance cameras present in the area. The young man was transferred to the Naples Poggioreale prison and made available to the Judicial Authority.
