Benevento – A mega-fraud of 2,5 million euros to the detriment of the State, exploiting building bonuses such as ecobonus and sismabonus, has led to the investigation of 18 people, including eight citizens of the province of Benevento and two from the province of Avellino.
The investigation, coordinated by the Vicenza Public Prosecutor's Office and now concluded, has shed light on an alleged system of false invoicing related to interventions never carried out on properties of which the applicants were not even owners.
Among those under investigation are two 50-year-olds from Benevento and Pietrelcina, a 43-year-old from Calvi, a 44-year-old from Amorosi, a 51-year-old from Apice, a 24-year-old from Pago Veiano, a 45-year-old from Paduli and a 57-year-old from Pietrelcina.
From the province of Avellino, a 51-year-old from Pietradefusi and a 26-year-old from San Martino Valle Caudina are involved. All are accused of having participated in a complex fraudulent mechanism that saw the legal representative of a company based in the Vicenza area at its center.
According to investigators, the scam was orchestrated starting in November 2021.

However, the properties in question would never have been the subject of work, and the applicants would not have had any legitimate title to access the benefits. The Vicenza company would have issued false invoices to document work that was never carried out, creating a false basis for the recognition of the tax credit.
The credit, once obtained, would have been transferred to the company, generating an illicit profit of almost 2,5 million euros. The Prosecutor's Office claims that the entire operation was built on an "ideological simulation", with the aim of deceiving the public administration.
The defendants now have twenty days to ask to be questioned and present defense briefs. Subsequently, the prosecutor will decide whether to proceed with the requests for indictment.
The investigation, which also involved the territories of Benevento and Avellino, represents a new chapter in the investigations into fraud related to building bonuses, a phenomenon that continues to highlight critical issues in the system of control of state incentives.

This scam story is really incredible, I don't understand how it can happen that people take money for work never done. The authorities should do more to control these situations and prevent similar frauds in the future.
