The rearview mirror scam continues to claim victims, especially among the elderly, turning into a real social plague: the latest episode occurred in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood, along the busy Via Diocleziano, where two men tried to deceive a 78-year-old by pretending to be municipal police officers.
The Carabinieri, engaged in a patrol of the area, noticed the scene: two individuals were confabulating with the elderly man next to two cars parked on the edge of the road. The man appeared visibly agitated and was handing money to the two strangers. Suspicious, the military intervened to verify what was happening.

After reconstructing the story, the scam emerged: the two, both 47 years old and already known to the police, had simulated an accident by hitting the victim's car and accusing her of having caused the damage. To make the scene more credible, they had passed themselves off as traffic police, convincing the unfortunate man to give them 500 euros as "immediate compensation". The timely intervention of the Carabinieri prevented the scammers from disappearing. The two men were arrested, while the money was returned to the 78-year-old, still in shock from the incident.
