VICENZA – A 38-year-old man was arrested and a 26-year-old woman reported by the Carabinieri of Schio and Arsiero in the province of Vicenza for a scam against two elderly women, deceived by the deception of a fake carabiniere. Both, originally from Naples and with specific precedents, had been given a total of over 20.000 euros in cash and jewelry.
The victims, a resident of Schio who gave 18.500 euros in cash and an 82-year-old woman from Trissino who handed over jewelry worth 1.500 euros, were deceived by the two criminals. The alarm was raised thanks to several reports to 112, which allowed the Carabinieri to intervene promptly.
The woman was stopped in a car parked in the center of Schio while she was waiting for her accomplice, who in the meantime was trying to escape by boarding a train leaving the station. In a desperate attempt to escape, the man abandoned the loot, which was later recovered and returned to the victims.
The 38-year-old was arrested and taken to the Vicenza prison, awaiting the validation hearing. The 26-year-old, however, was reported at large. Investigations are continuing to ascertain any other incidents linked to the couple.
