Portoferraio – The Carabinieri of Portoferraio, with the support of their colleagues in Naples, have arrested a 47-year-old man believed to be responsible for at least two scams targeting seniors on the island of Elba. The man used the technique of posing as a sergeant or lawyer to deceive his victims.
The investigation began last January, when a woman in her late 90s, a resident of Marciana, received a phone call from a self-styled "Carabinieri marshal" demanding money to cover an accident caused by her son. The woman, suspicious, contacted her son, thus avoiding the scam.
An 85-year-old woman from Elba Island had a similar experience, while a third XNUMX-year-old woman was scammed: after the phone call, the thug he managed to enter her home by pretending to be a lawyer and had her hand over the money and jewelry present in the house.

It's incredible how some people can deceive the elderly so easily, I feel sorry for the victims. Let's hope that the police can stop these scammers and protect the most vulnerable in society.
