An investigation by the DDA reveals a ring of false practices for work permits: 36 arrested, accountant Nicola Salvati involved
A ring of falsified applications for obtaining work permits intended for non-EU citizens has led to the arrest of 36 people in Campania. The investigation, conducted by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate (DDA), has shed light on an illicit system that would also involve public officials of the territorial labor inspectorates.
Among the names at the center of the investigation is accountant Nicola Salvati, treasurer of the Democratic Party of Campania, suspended from his position by the party's regional commissioner, Antonio Misiani. His father, Giuseppe Salvati, is also implicated in the investigation. According to investigators, the two—owners of an accounting firm—played a key role in preparing and altering the documentation required to submit authorization requests, including instructing employers to "correct" the applications or issuing false invoices.

The objective, according to what is reported in the 300-page order signed by the preliminary investigations judge of Salerno, Giovanni Rossi, would have been to artificially increase the turnover of the companies involved to facilitate the presentation and approval of regularization requests. Furthermore, the system would have allowed the laundering of sums of money of illicit origin.
The wiretaps would reveal the stable and repeated involvement of Salvati and his father in the fraudulent mechanism. According to investigators, there would be approximately 2.000 non-EU citizens who would have obtained documents to stay in Italy, after paying sums of up to 7.000 euros per procedure.
The investigation continues and could lead to further developments.
