Yesterday, February 26, Donald Trump revealed his future intention to introduce 25% customs duties on European products.
Trump believes that the European Union pursues a single goal: that of "screwing" the United States. These are statements that contradict history, since the integration process that matured following the two world wars has seen the convinced support of the United States since the very beginning.
Trump, who at the time also supported the cause of Brexit, has always distinguished himself for a policy aimed at protecting the interests of the States first and foremost to the detriment of international cooperative mechanisms. Clearly this ostracism towards "Old Europe" by the Tycoon arises for purely economic/commercial reasons.
The European Commission has reacted by specifying that any such duties will be followed by a firm and immediate response. In our country there has been a unanimous chorus of disapproval (from the opposition parties). Absolute silence instead from the government parties. The leader of Confindustria Orsini is also decidedly worried and bluntly spoke of a "dark hour".
