Villa Ebe, a fascinating 19th century neo-Gothic residence of the architect Lamont Young, will be restored and entrusted to the management of the Italian Environment Fund (FAI): the announcement came directly from the mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, Durante it 29th FAI Delegates and Volunteers Conference at La Scala in Milan.
“Villa Ebe is owned by the Municipality and is located in a symbolic place for the city, on the ramps of Pizzofalcone, on Mount Echia, cradle of the foundation of Naples”, explained Manfredi. “With the FAI we will sign an agreement for the renovation and management of the villa, transforming it into a place of memory and culture, capable of telling another piece of the extraordinary history of our city”.
The project brings to light the legacy of Lamont Young, a visionary architect of Anglo-Neapolitan origins, famous for his futuristic ideas. Born into a family of English entrepreneurs who moved to Naples in the 19th century, Young was an innovator who, already at the end of the 19th century, designed a subway for the city, built only a century later. Among his most fascinating creations is Villa Ebe, which was his residence and is now preparing to become a new cultural center thanks to the intervention of the FAI.
