Napoli – "We still have time to include the Maradona Stadium among the European Championship venues, but we must act promptly and effectively." This was stated by the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, speaking during an interview with CRC, radio partner of the SSC Napoli.

Abodi emphasized the importance of accelerating the organizational process so as not to miss the opportunity to see the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium among the venues for the continental tournament. "We must start immediately," the minister explained. "I hope today can be a further step toward a definitive solution, which remains an absolute priority, whatever it may be."

Improvement or new system: De Laurentiis and the alternatives

Among the options on the table, the Refurbishment of the Maradona Stadium appears the most concrete.

"It's the most likely solution," admitted Abodi, while acknowledging the preferences of the Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, who wanted a new project.

"I reiterate: whatever the final decision, the important thing is that it is made quickly," the minister added. "There is not an infinite amount of time available." Abodi then clarified that his role is not to influence the parties involved: "I do not have to convince De Laurentiis to keep the Maradona, nor the mayor Gaetano Manfredi to opt for other solutions. A constructive dialogue between the club and the municipality is needed, because the stadium is a common good and the interest is universal."

Naples asks for concrete and rapid solutions

The city, Abodi concluded, "wants an answer practicable and achievable in a short time". A challenge that, if won, could give the Campania capital a leading role in theEuropean 2028, bringing international football and great excitement to its home turf. Now the ball is in the institutions' court: will they be able to achieve their goal?

It is interesting to see how Minister Abodi talks about the Maradona stadium and its possibilities. But I hope that decisions are taken in due time, because the city deserves to have a facility that is up to international competitions.
