San Isidro – The first hearing of the criminal trial against the medical team that treated Diego Armando will begin tomorrow in the town on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Maradona, world football legend and Argentine icon.
More than four years after his death on November 25, 2020, the San Isidro court will begin a process that promises to be long and complex, with an estimated duration of several months and approximately 120 testimonies expected.
Maradona, who died at the age of 60 from a cardio-respiratory crisis, was recovering in a residence in Tigre, on a medical bed, after neurosurgery for a hematoma on his head. His death shocked the world, raising questions about the management of his health.
Tomorrow, eight health professionals will face the dock, accused of “potential negligence.” Among them are the neurosurgeon who was treating him, a clinical physician, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a head nurse and several nurses.
The path to the trial was tortuous: twice, in 2022 and then on appeal in March 2023, the Argentine courts confirmed the need to clarify medical responsibilities. Now, in San Isidro, a new page opens in this story that continues to keep Argentina and the world of football in suspense.

It is very important that justice is done for Maradona, but I wonder if there will really be consequences for the doctors. The health of the patient must always be the first, I hope that the trial will clarify everything.
