The Cinema Academy Astra in Naples hosts a special evening dedicated to Palestinian cinema as part of the AstraDoc festival. On March 28, at 20:30 p.m., the film “From Ground Zero” will be presented for the first time in Naples, a collective work curated by Rashid Masharawi and created by various directors from Gaza.
Article Key Points
The film has already attracted attention by participating in the Toronto Film Festival and has been shortlisted for the Oscars for Palestine.
Screening and Appeal
At the opening of the evening, the audience will have the opportunity to see the short film “Deferred Reclaim” directed by Abdallah Motan, a filmmaker currently detained without trial. The short highlights the trauma experienced by Palestinian families who are denied the return of the bodies of their loved ones. Afterwards, an appeal for the release of Motan is scheduled, with interventions by Omar Suleiman of the local Palestinian community, the journalist Ida Palisi and Claudia Saioni of the Gesco cooperative group.
“From Ground Zero” initiative
The project “From Ground Zero” brings together twenty-two short films, each between three and six minutes long, created by filmmakers from Gaza. This work, initiated by Masharawi in the context of the recent conflict with Israel, aims to provide a platform for young filmmakers from Gaza. Through a variety of genres, from documentary to animation, the short films offer narratives that explore the experiences of life in Gaza, expressing the pain, joy and hope of the population amidst the hardships and daily resilience.

The initiative is very interesting but more information on how to participate would have been needed. The short films seem promising, but I hope the message reaches the public in Naples clearly.
I agree with Lferri, it would be useful to have details on times and tickets. Palestinian history deserves attention and art is a powerful way to tell it even in events like this.
