Avellino – Vast operation by the Carabinieri of the Avellino provincial command in the early hours of today, with targeted searches in the Irpinia capital and in Mercogliano. The blitz, aimed at finding weapons, concentrated in the Rione Mazzini and Rione Aversa neighborhoods in Avellino, as well as in Capocastello, the historic center of Mercogliano.
The operation is closely linked to the attacks that took place on January 20 and 22, when a 19-year-old was wounded by a gunshot while going to his girlfriend's house in Rione Mazzini, and two days later a 41-year-old from Avellino was shot in the leg near a shop in Atripalda. Investigators suspect a possible connection between the two episodes.
The results of the searches are still provisional, but the Carabinieri – supported by canine units – have already seized toy guns without the red cap, faithfully reproduced and similar to real weapons, as well as knuckle-dusters and other objects capable of causing offence.
A 40-year-old from Avellino, already known to the police, was found in possession of a blank gun and a switchblade, which were confiscated. The man was reported at large.

This operation by the Carabinieri is very important for the safety of our community. I hope they can find more evidence and ensure greater protection for the citizens of Avellino, who deserve to live peacefully and without fear.
