Naples - The phenomenon of bradyseism, which has returned with force to the Campi Flegrei area, is upending the regeneration plans for the former Italsider area in Bagnoli.
After the magnitude 4.4 earthquake recorded last night, the most intense in the last forty years, the mayor of Naples and extraordinary commissioner for Bagnoli, Gaetano Manfredi, announced a remodeling of the urban project.
In place of the planned residential volumes, space will be given to sports and recreational activities and safety interventions to mitigate seismic risks.
The original plan called for the construction of around a thousand homes, but the Campi Flegrei decree, converted into law in July 2024, imposed a halt to new construction, introducing urgent measures to prevent risks related to bradyseism.
“Today we can only build reconstruction housing,” explained Manfredi, underlining the intention to redevelop Borgo Coroglio, offering its inhabitants alternative housing solutions.

The Bagnoli-Coroglio area, included in the 'Intervention Zone' to ensure the safety of the territory, is at the center of a discussion between the commissioner structure, the Extraordinary Commissioner for Campi Flegrei, Fulvio Maria Soccodato, and the National Department of Civil Protection.
During the meeting of the control room on Bagnoli, held three days ago at Palazzo Chigi, priority interventions were outlined to improve accessibility and guarantee safe escape routes in case of emergency.
Among the key measures, the construction of an underpass between via Nuova Agnano and via Beccadelli stands out, to improve connections with the ring road and decongest traffic, and the functional recovery of the Pontile Nord, which will be adapted as a docking point for evacuations by sea. Q
These interventions aim to strengthen the resilience of the area, ensuring greater safety and fluidity in road flows, while reducing interference with the Cumana railway line.
Therefore, bradyseism not only changes the face of Bagnoli, but requires a broader reflection on how to reconcile urban development and safety in a high-risk area. The regeneration of Bagnoli thus becomes a testing ground for a new planning model, where prevention and protection of the territory become mandatory priorities.

The article talks about bradyseism and how it impacts Bagnoli. It is important to pay attention to these problems, but I do not know if the proposed solutions are really effective for the safety of the territory and people.
