Interior Minister Matteo Paiantedosi made a surprise visit to Naples, meeting with the mayors of the Campi Flegrei area at the Rossini School in Bagnoli. Among those attending the meeting were Prefect Michele di Bari, Police Chief Maurizio Agricola, and the mayors of Naples. Pozzuoli, Bacoli, Quarto and Monte di Procida.

After reviewing the status of bradyseism controls following the recent tremors, Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi asked the minister to strengthen the fire brigade's operations, urging the reopening of the Fuorigrotta barracks and increasing the 24-hour operations of the local police for the municipalities of Naples and the Phlegraean Fields with a specific provision.

"All civil protection matters are based on planning that encompasses the broadest possible scenarios.

"The example," the minister continued, pointing to the nearby Madonna Assunta Institute, "is this school. I was able to see in real time that it has been restructured from the wounds it had suffered, and will resume teaching as early as Monday.

So this school, this place where we gathered, is a tangible example of the approach we need to take: attention, vigilance, being prepared for any eventuality, but maintaining the necessary calm to continue our daily lives without particular worries."

The minister's visit to Naples was important, but I don't know if it's enough. Mayors must work harder for safety, especially after the tremors. Let's hope that promises are kept and that the police are strengthened.
