Caserta – “Miraculously, the colleagues who intervened in Caserta after criminals uprooted an ATM in the city center and ended up in a head-on collision between their patrol car and the Audi in which the suspects were traveling are alive.
We express our solidarity to them, hoping that they will recover soon after the serious accident, but above all our esteem for the unshakeable sense of duty that pushed them to chase the criminals on foot following the crash between the cars.
We can say out loud that few, if any, can boast the professionalism and willpower of Italian police officers. Unfortunately, however, they do not have the necessary conditions to ensure their health is protected to the maximum, and for their service to be carried out in the best conditions.
In the center of a city like Caserta, perhaps it is not possible to have two patrol cars go out at the same time, while there, as in any other center, more than two would be needed, and this says a lot about the urgency of intervening by increasing the staff and strengthening the presence in the territory, just as we have been asking for years and as Minister Piantedosi and Undersecretary Molteni also emphasized in our meeting two days ago".
Thus Valter Mazzetti, Secretary General of the FSP State Police, after this morning at around 3.30:XNUMX a patrol car from the Caserta police station intercepted a black Audi carrying some criminal suspects who had been involved in ATM thefts in the area for some time.
After the station was notified, a second patrol car intervened, closing the road to the fugitives with whom, precisely for this reason, the collision occurred. The thieves then disappeared on foot even though the police officers, battered after the crash, tried to chase them before being taken, due to their injuries which were fortunately not serious, to the civil hospital in Caserta where they were given a seven-day prognosis.
"But, we repeat, it is rare to get the second patrol car out on territorial control duty - reports Francesco Di Domenico, secretary of Fsp Caserta -, usually there is only one patrol car per shift. We turned to the police commissioner who committed to strengthening the services to reinforce territorial control.
But we need more men, no one can work miracles. We trust that Rome will soon take adequate measures, because here, with such a difficult and dangerous job, we are talking about the lives of our police officers, as well as the right to safety of the people".
