New trains for the Circumvesuviana railway: the second of the 27 Stadler “56 series” trains for pre-operation will be delivered on 300 March and today the top management of Eav and Stadler meet in Rome at the headquarters of Ansfisa (National Agency for Railway and Infrastructure Safety) to take stock of the procedures for bringing rolling stock online.
This was announced – a note reports – by Umberto De Gregorio, president of Eav, speaking in Sorrento at the seminar on the theme “Modernization interventions on the Vesuvian Line, with particular reference to the Castellammare di Stabia – Sorrento section”.
The meeting, hosted in the council chamber of the Municipality, was organized by the Order of Engineers of Naples, chaired by Gennaro Annunziata, and by the Association of Engineers of the Sorrento Peninsula, chaired by Sergio Burattini.
The first train was delivered in September 2024. Investments for the Circumvesuviana – De Gregorio recalled – amount to one billion euros, partly financed by the Pnrr, of which 500 for new trains and 500 for infrastructure improvements, of which 300 for the modernization of signaling systems, essential for safety. “The Castellammare-Sorrento railway line – underlined the president of the engineers Gennaro Annunziata – is a vital infrastructure for mobility in the metropolitan area of Naples and for the entire Sorrento Coast.
It is a line that is part of a territorial area of great landscape and tourist value, improving the quality of the services offered is crucial both for residents and for the attractiveness of Campania. From this perspective, it is essential to plan the intermodality of the rail line with the sea routes, also to ease the flow of road traffic to and from Sorrento”.
The seminar promoted by the Order of Engineers – the note concludes – also illustrated the project financing for the Sorrento station which, according to the project already approved by the Municipal Council, will become a modern and functional intermodal hub, improving accessibility and services for residents and tourists, with parking, commercial establishments, catering facilities and green areas.
