Moments of terror for Nicolás Fonseca, Uruguayan midfielder of León, a Mexican club in Liga MX. According to local media, the 26-year-old player was kidnapped for a few hours and his car was stolen while he was on his way to training.
The episode, which shook the Mexican football environment, occurred when Fonseca was intercepted by a group of armed men who were travelling on board another vehicle. The criminals got into his BMW, forcing him to follow them. According to the Argentine daily newspaper Clarin, the footballer was then robbed of his personal effects and abandoned in an isolated area, away from the main road.
A few hours later, the local police found the player's car a few kilometers away. For the moment, neither Fonseca nor the club León have released statements about the incident. Arrived in Mexico last January from River Plate, Fonseca has quickly established himself as a key element of León's midfield, earning the trust of the coach Eduardo Berizzo.
