The Prosecutor's Office Avellino has opened an investigation into the death of a 48-year-old inmate, found lifeless inside his cell in the prison of the Irpinia capital.
The discovery was made late yesterday evening, when the Penitentiary Police officers attempted to revive him while waiting for the arrival of the 118 paramedics, but every effort was in vain.
The man, a drug addict originally from Montoro (Avellino), was serving a sentence for drug dealing. By order of the Prosecutor's Office, the body was seized for further investigation.
This is the second case of suicide in prison in Avellino in the space of a month and a half, a fact that reignites the debate on the conditions of prisoners and the penitentiary system.
