The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into Illicit Activities Related to the Waste Cycle and Other Environmental and Agri-food Crimes, led by MP Jacopo Morrone, will be in Campania on Monday 31 March and Tuesday 1 April 2025 for a mission focused on two fronts: international waste trafficking and the protection of “Made in Italy” agri-food excellence.
The delegation, composed of the deputies Francesco Emilio Borrelli (AVS), Gerolamo Cangiano (FdI) and Maria Stefania Marino (PD-IDP) and senators Pietro Lorefice (M5S) and Simona Petrucci (FdI), will begin his mission at the Prefecture of Salerno, where hearings are scheduled with the prefect Francesco Esposito, the general director of Arpa Campania Stefano Sorvino and the director of general affairs of the Naples Customs Agency Maurizio Pacelli. This will be followed by an inspection of the port of Salerno.
The second day will open with an inspection in Persano, a hamlet of Serre (Salerno), at the storage site of the residues from the combustion of waste rejected by the Tunisian authorities.
Afterwards, the delegation will move to Battipaglia to visit some plants and meet the representatives of the Consortium of Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP. In the afternoon, meetings are planned in Gragnano with the Consortium for the Protection of Pasta di Gragnano IGP and in Cetara with the producers of Colatura di Alici di Cetara DOP.

The committee's work seems important to me but there are many problems to solve regarding waste trafficking. Let's hope that the deputies can do a good and useful job for the territory, it takes commitment.
I agree that this is a serious issue, but I don't know if one mission will solve everything. We need a more detailed plan and long-term strategies to address these issues.
Buffalo mozzarella is an excellent product, but the risk of pollution and waste issues must be a priority in the discussion. Let's hope there are effective solutions.
