After almost ten years of investigations and a trial that marked their career, Michel Platini and the former president of the FIFASepp Blatter were finally acquitted by the Court of Appeal Muttenz, in Switzerland.
The sentence confirms the acquittal already obtained in the first instance, putting an end to a legal affair that in 2015 had prevented Platini from running for the leadership of world football. The investigation revolved around alleged financial irregularities linked to the World Cup Russia 2018 e Qatar 2022The Swiss prosecutor's office had requested the arrest of the two former top executives of UEFA and FIFA a prison sentence of one year and eight months suspended, contesting them fraud, false documents and unfaithful management.
The acquittal on appeal represents an important victory for Platini, who has been fighting for years to clear his name. The former champion of Juventus and three-time Ballon d'Or winner has always denied all accusations, claiming that he was the victim of a political maneuver to exclude him from the race for the FIFA presidency.
