The American multinational Jabil announced the sale of its Marcianise plant to Tme Assembly Engineering Srl (Tma), a new company owned by Tme di Portico di Caserta and Invitalia.
The decision, announced on March 25, comes after the conclusion of the collective dismissal procedure and prevents the dismissal of the site's 408 employees.
Details of the transfer:
The sale will take place in two phases: first the transfer of shares from Jabil Circuit Italia (Jci) to a NewCo (Jabil NewCo) entirely controlled by the former, and then the transition from Jabil NewCo to Tma.
Tma is a new company established by Tme of Portico di Caserta (55% of the shares) and Invitalia (45%).
Jabil said the divestment ensures a sustainable future for workers at the site.
Reactions and perspectives:
Jabil's move, which comes at the end of the layoff process, puts unions and workers in a difficult position.
The transfer is unilateral, and the unions can only negotiate economic and working conditions.
A 25-day period is foreseen for negotiations between the company and the unions, which will take place at Confindustria.
Employees who do not wish to transfer to the new company will have to resign.
The dispute seems to be moving towards a solution, despite the unions and workers' desire to keep Jabil in Marcianise.
A meeting is scheduled for April 16 at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, convened by Minister Urso.
Key points:
Layoffs averted: the sale avoids the dismissal of 408 employees.
Unilateral surrender: unions have limited room for maneuver.
Uncertain future: economic and working conditions for employees remain to be defined.
The unions' desire was to keep Jabil on the territory, but the sale changed the rules of the game.
