Campania has decided to pay homage to one of its most beloved gastronomic symbols: Neapolitan ragù. With a law approved by a large majority (34 votes in favor and only one abstention), the Region has established the “Naples Ragù Day”, setting it on the second Sunday of November.
An initiative that goes beyond a simple culinary tribute, aiming to enhance a tradition that represents a true cultural heritage.
The proposal, presented by regional councilor Tommaso Pellegrino (Italia Viva), was welcomed with enthusiasm by the chamber.
Pellegrino emphasized how Neapolitan ragù is not just a recipe, but an element of identity that has united generations: “Thanks to this dish, families, especially on Sundays, would gather to share lunch. It is a ritual that speaks of affection, roots and memory”.
The day will also be an opportunity to pay homage to grandmothers, custodians of this culinary tradition. “They are the ones who passed down this recipe, kept it alive and transformed it into a symbol of love and care,” added Pellegrino.
The idea of celebrating Neapolitan ragù found cross-party support from many councilors. Bruna Fiola (PD) proposed organizing the event in Piazza del Plebiscito, transforming it into a moment of collective sharing: "We could all meet together, like a big family, to celebrate this tradition."
Andrea Volpe (Psi) instead highlighted the importance of promoting the excellence of Campania: "This day is an opportunity to tell our extraordinary heritage and enhance it".
A key role in the initiative was played by the digital collective Casa Surace, who launched a petition collecting over 5.000 signatures. Among the symbolic faces of the campaign, that of Nonna Rosetta stands out, a figure much loved especially by young people, who used ragù as a tool to convey affection and values.
“A special thanks goes to Casa Surace and Nonna Rosetta, who made all this possible,” declared Pellegrino, announcing the appointment for next November 9th: “We will all meet to celebrate together the Neapolitan ragout, in memory of Nonna Rosetta and all grandmothers, custodians of our cultural heritage”.
A celebration that promises to unite taste, tradition and identity, transforming Neapolitan ragù into a symbol of sharing and pride for all of Campania.
