Tuesday 25 March at 17pm at Palazzo Ricca: Ghosts, fluids and (fake) resurrections in the Kingdom of Naples of the modern age curated by Francesco Paolo de Ceglia
A volume that collects essays by historians who, with very varied specializations, have explored the boundaries between spirit and body, life and death, but also the relationships between the natural and the supernatural in the long modern age of southern Italy.
Tomorrow, March 25th at 17pm at Palazzo Ricca (Via dei Tribunali, 213), headquarters of the Foundation Bank of Naples, the book Partenope degli spiriti. Ghosts, fluids and (fake) resurrections in the Kingdom of Naples of the modern age is presented, edited by Francesco Paolo de Ceglia.
Participants: Orazio Abbamonte President of the Foundation, Valerio Petrarca University of Naples Federico II, Edoardo Tortarolo University of Eastern Piedmont, Luigi Einaudi Foundation, Turin, introduced and coordinated by Elisa Novi Chavarria University of Molise.
At the centre is the Kingdom of Naples of the modern age, pervaded by presences, both material and phantasmal at the same time: hyperactive relics and remote agents, ghosts in spiritual or corporeal form, impalpable fluids yet capable of healing the sick, making men and women dance for days on end, revealing mineral deposits and aquifers.
Perhaps even such as to bring the dead back to life. Of course, this with some concern of civil and religious authorities. While watching over everything and everyone was she, Partenope, mythical founder of the city.
